Ewe Doodle is a game that would probably slip by you on the app store due to its cute and cuddly imagery on the app icon, but give this game a closer look and you’ll find a hilariously gruesome distraction in the style of Unpleasant Horse.
The game is simple, you choose your enemy and then make damn sure the fluffy sheep doesn’t get turned into a crimson pulp on the ground. There are difficulty levels and three mechanically identical yet different levels to choose from; including a swarm of sheep hungry wasps, a fat slathering dog and - my favorite - the hockey masked psychos.
The game-play is simple; survive as long as you possibly can by using the responsive and simplistic touch controls. This may sound rather simple to begin with but when you factor in power-ups such as a shell that turns the sheep into a spiked armadillo, capable of defending you from the sharpest bite or sting, it’s actually surprisingly fun and challenging.
There is only one very minor gripe with the game and that’s the wasps. This isn’t because I’m a wasp xenophobe but rather that the wasp sprite is slightly smaller than the rest but the kill radius is the same, however this is easily remedied by simply vouching for one of the other enemies instead. Game Center support would have also improved things with the opportunity to compete with friends for the highest score.
Overall this is a game that won’t blow your mind, and if you expect it to you will be disappointed, but what it does do is make you smile.
