Childbirth Simulator announced for PlayStation 4

Square Enix Company Logo

At a special event today Square Enix showed off it’s first game for the soon to be released PlayStation 4, entitled ‘Childbirth Simulator’.

By harnessing the raw horsepower of the next generation console and adding in a unique new controller method Square Enix are boldly claiming that ‘Childbirth Simulator’ will be the most realistic video game depiction of childbirth ever seen. We went speculum deep with a hands on demo.

The key to ‘Childbirth Simulator’, and what sets it apart from previous attempts at the genre, is the brand new controller; known as the Birthulator. The controller consists of several electrodes which are stuck to the body which pass an electric current through them, shocking abdominal muscles to stimulate contractions. The controller has variable levels of current with Square Enix promising that the highest difficulty levels provide a realistic simulation of the sensations experienced during childbirth.

Our hands on time with the controller left us amazed with the accurate portrayal of the feeling of birth as you can see from the video below!

Multiplayer has not been left out either, with a variety of modes available for others to join in the fun. There’s a cooperative mode where yourself and a friend can have a ‘joint birth’ side by side and the game ‘listens’ to any encouragement your offer to the other player using the PlayStation Eye camera microphone (sold separately) and awards bonus points and multipliers where applicable.

If you’re the more competitive type there’s also versus game modes, and one example we were shown had the player using the DualShock pad to activate the different electrode pads and change their intensities.

It’s very exciting to see a developer putting such effort into the childbirth game market and we’re very excited to see the finished product when it’s released towards the end of 2013.
