Battlefield 4 to stay ‘Modern’

August 14th, 2012 by

Good afternoon all. Well it’s been confirmed that Battlefield 4 will remain set in modern times and not revert to the past or go all bonkers and futuristic on our asses.

DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson popped his head out of cover and announced through the gun fire at Game Developers Conference Europe that Battlefield 4 would indeed be set in the modern age. This, to some, might be surprising news as many thought that they may follow the ‘crowd’ and set their next title in a futuristic setting - I heard they where thinking of setting it in Blackpool in the year 2099; Taking over the pleasure beach and amusement arcades. This obviously was a dream I had.

Battlefield 3 is of course a Midlife Gamer Community favourite. With weekly organised gaming nights and of course our infamous Eurogamer booth take-over, which was widely reported throughout all reputable press outlets.

The joyous announcement that we would indeed be treated to the fourth in the series came in July of this year when Origin, EA’s digital distribution service, announced that pre-ordered copies of the new Medal of Honour: Warfighter game would come with Beta access to Battlefield 4. Although since then it has been confirmed that this is not the only way for us to access the beta, other ways will be announced…oooo interesting.

Medal of Honour/Honor looks pretty good

Its safe to say that we are looking forward to what the next instalment has to offer. Many of us are still knee deep in blood and guts and bullet shells and rubble and chewing gum of Battlefield 3 so I am sure that Battlefield 4 will be woven into the fabric of Midlife Gamer community… see you on the battlefield.

  1. There are so many stories that can be told in the modern era, so I’m happy to see that they are still keeping it modern. I feel the developers have more freedom if they keep it modern, in stead of doing a WW2-shooter where they are more limited in their design choices.
