The Museum of Computing in Swindon has been awarded full accreditation with the Arts Council of England (ACE). ACE’s Museum Accreditation Scheme sets nationally agreed standards for all museums in the UK.
The Curator of the museum, Simon Webb, said “This is exciting and rewarding news. Accreditation is the culmination of years of work by our volunteers to bring the museum up to professional standards, and to ensure that we provide experiences for our visitors that are both enjoyable and educational.”
The Museum of Computing – opening in 2003 – was the first dedicated computer museum in the UK and is run entirely by volunteers. The museum holds regular exhibitions and gaming events as well both adult and childrens computer classes.
The Accreditation award shows that the local community of Swindon has a remarkable archive in their area whilst national and international visitors have a superb insight into the history of computing – contained within over 3000 objects ranging from the basic abacus to the most recent PlayStation Vita.
