Peter Molyneux Leaves Lionhead and Microsoft

March 7th, 2012 by

Peter Molyneux has made the surprise announcement that he’ll be leaving Lionhead Studios, and parting ways with Microsoft.

“It is with mixed emotions that I made the decision to leave Microsoft and Lionhead Studios, the company that I co-founded in 1997, at the conclusion of development of Fable: The Journey,” he said in a statement provided to Kotaku.

Peter Molyneux leaves Lionhead in the hands of co-founder Mark Webey but assures fans that he will finish work on Fable: The Journey before completely handing the reins over. He’ll be starting work with a new, independent developer known as 22 Cans.

Microsoft had this to say in a statement: “As co-founder of Lionhead and an integral part of Microsoft Studios, Peter was the creative visionary behind the blockbuster Fable franchise, and one of our most passionate and influential developers for the Xbox 360 platform,”.

“He has made an indelible mark on the games industry and we wish him all the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

  1. One of the true gifted public speakers of games, yes most of the stuff he says turns out to be bollocks but he’s just so passionate its hard not to get caught up in what he says. Looking forward to what every he makes now.

  2. avatar SGT says:

I wonder if he was ‘fired’ cos Fable 3 was such utter rubbish – ie turning Fable into a populist and mediocre vehicle to showcase the videogame voiceover debut of several high ranking British actors
