Sony reveals choice of free game downloads as part of PSN ‘Welcome Back’ program

May 17th, 2011 by

I’m sure we are all glad to see the Playstation Network back, and only 48 hours after some of the services were restored, the European Playstaion blog has detailed the list of free stuff that we will be entitled to.

It’s also worth noting that if you signed up to the PSN after the 20th April this year, you won’t be eligible for any of this.

Firstly the games, PS3 owners will be entitled to two free games from the following:

LittleBigPlanet

Infamous*

Wipeout HD/Fury

Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty

Dead Nation*

*For the German market, InFamous and Dead Nation will be replace with Super Stardust HD and Hustle Kings in the selection of PS3 games.

For those with PSP accounts, users are entitled to two games from the following list:

LittleBigPlanet PSP

ModNation PSP

Pursuit Force

Killzone Liberation*

*For the German market, Pursuit Force and Killzone Liberation will be replaced with Everybody’s Golf 2 and Buzz Junior Jungle Party in the selection of PSP games. Killzone Liberation will not offer online gameplay functionality.

On top of that:

- 30 days free PlayStation Plus membership for non PS Plus subscribers*

- Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers will be given 60 days free subscription.

- For existing Music Unlimited subscribers, you will be given 30 days free subscription.

- Sony are working on a Welcome Back offer in PlayStation Home and they will share that when it is confirmed.

*You will have access to the PS Plus content planned for May for 30 days. Access to the free games and exclusive features finishes at the end of the 30-day subscription period. Anything you buy with exclusive discounts, dynamic themes and premium avatars are yours to keep forever.

There is also talk of an unnamed selection of “On Us” movies will be available for free rental on an unspecified weekend in the coming weeks.

Sony hopes to offer all of this stuff as soon as possible, noting that it is waiting for all services to be fully restored before it does.

What do people think of the welcome pack?

Yeah not really 2 bothered tbh…. Out of the 5 games available i own 3 of them…. so i suppose im getting a couple of games…. Still, not all that interested in them to start with :-/

Don’t own any of them, was looking to get Dead Nation before the network went down, so brucey bonus.
Not sure what other one to get LittleBigPlanet, Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty or Infamous. As for the PlayStation Plus membership well, as long as you can keep any discounted stuff, it depends on whats on offer :D

I didn’t really care about getting something for free but still feel insulted for some reason. I’ve got/played 4 out of the 5 and not interested in Dead Nation. What a jip.

  4. avatar Jurassic Prinny says:

Yay, LBP without ever having to put the disc in again! I am that lazy!

  5. avatar BellsNo360 says:

don’t have any of the game so will be good to pick a couple of them especially LBP

  6. Dead Nation and inFamous for me (already have inFamous somewhere… but wouldn’t mind a digital copy).
It is a shame that out of those titles, Dead Nation is the only one I’ve either not played or don’t own

  7. avatar Dave Moran says:

I’m hoping this will work but I have two PSN accounts (mine and the Mrs Dangerous) so hope to get 4 PS3 title and all the PSP ones!

It’s worked out for me any way as my PS3 isn’t my primary console, I have infamous waiting to play but I may as well trade it in and put it towards something else.

It appears they have been hacked again.
    Details revealed here:

For missing out on a free service for a month, I’m over the moon. I guess it helps that I don’t own any of the games (games are expensive here in New Zealand)so I’m thinking the zombie one and then a toss up between infamous or little big planet. Good work Sony

  10. avatar steamRobot says:

PSN may be free but their are components that we pay for – there’s FirstPlay, Lovefilm and Plus to name a few. I know that lovefilm is free as part of their postal service but i actually re-activated my account because of the ps3.

Lovefilm have emailed recently to indicate that they will deduct £5 from accounts that used PS3 in the months prior to downtime, so that’s good.

I just dislike this calling psn free. Access is free, like silver on xbox i guess, but you still pay for content.
