EA Release MMA Screens

September 13th, 2010 by

It might not have a handy little year suffix to the name but there’s no two ways about it, EA mean business in representing the otherwise written-off sport of mixed martial arts that will no doubt be a yearly franchise. Scoffed at a few years back when the UFC approached EA to design a videogame around their sport, it took the hugely successful UFC 2009: Undisputed from THQ to show that sweaty men rolling around on the floor in unlikely positions in fact does mix rather well in our medium. Leaving EA with embarrassed red faces, they’ve been playing catch-up ever since, as EA Tiburon’s EA Sports MMA comes into the frame this October.

The demo will be available on the 28th September 2010, although if your eager to see some screens from the fighter then look no further. EA’s new assets look remarkably similar to the aforementioned UFC, although the bold status bars evoke a more streamlined approach in contrast to the depth that UFC has to offer. The character models are also a little shy of the intensely detailed fighters in THQ’s efforts, where each drop of sweat can be seen, and blood flies from battered opponents.

Nevertheless, we’ll have to wait until the full game is released on the 19th October to really get a feel for the direction that EA have taken.
