‘Starman’ immortalised as Sim

June 4th, 2010 by

I can try and defend The Sims 3, I really can. For all its casual appeal and seemingly simple mechanics, you can’t help but admire its unabashed charm and uniqueness. But when the latest press release comes along for its upcoming expansion, entitled Ambitions, fronted by Pineapple Dance Studios’ “phenomenon” Andrew Stone, I can’t help but contemplate withdrawal from my argument in defence of my credibility as a gamer .

No, I can’t say I’m a big fan of Andrew, or ‘Starman’, as he likes to be called. As if that’s something to call yourself anyway, it sounds more like a Mario side-kick than an alias! Then again, I’m hardly his core audience, being straight and all, but for those who enjoy his camp swagger and bleached bonnet, you can now download his oh-so handsome self (in virtual form, at least) for The Sims 3 via ‘The Sims 3 Exchange’. Chosen by EA to represent the new expansion pack for his “embodiment of ambition and determination”, Stone insists that “there is no bigger crime than saying you can’t do something”. Incorrect, yes, but then again, what do I know!?

If you want to see more of him on his visit to EA, then take a look at the video here. You’ll most probably laugh, you’ll certainly not cry and you’ll still have no idea what The Sims 3: Ambitions is all about. Nice one, EA! And if all that isn’t enough, Andrew is getting ready to release, wait for it… “Simified music videos”, featuring songs in “Simlish” for all you Sims fans to get your groove on to. I rest my case.

The Sims 3: Ambitions is out on June 4th 2010 for PC.
