Free-To-Play MMO MicroVolts Enters Beta

June 24th, 2010 by

Rock Hippo Productions have announced their new MMO-TPS (Massively Multiplayer Online Third Person Shooter), that places players into the world of toy figurines, battling as action figures in our own homes, under our very noses – in Microvolts.

The third person online shooter is reported to include “fast paced game play”, whilst any one of four base characters can initially be chosen for play, although the ability to freely customise the character’s look with “literally thousands” of cosmetic changes available, no two players should look the same. A wealth of different weapons (all fully upgradeable), levels, maps, and game modes ensure the game is sufficiently robust. Meanwhile, every single user has their own stats tracked, with levelling a huge part of the game.

It marks a change for a developer to shy away from hugely ambitious MMO design that try to challenge hugely successful counterparts. Instead, it’s an intriguing concept and relatively simple idea, however, one which is certainly more likely to be achieved and be all the better for it, avoiding the lofty, exaggerated PR speak and unprecedented amounts of hype other similar titles have been trying to generate of late. The screen shots look excellent, with its colourful and cute art style and the shooter mechanics look fun too. Consider me interested…

The “free2play” MicroVolts enters beta soon. Sign up at www.microvolts.com for the chance to participate.
