Hi all MLG peeps.

I am doing the London 2 Brighton cycle in June. 54 miles, which is 34 miles more than I have managed so far!

It is for the BHF, which I think is a very worth cause.

I would greatly appreciate any donations to spur me on.

Thanks in advance you lovely, lovely people.

Thanks in advance my good man.

Had a bit of a setback – my attempts at home maintenance have left my front brakes out of action and siezed on! Dropped it in at the local bike shop but wont get it back until the Sat 8th. That is just one week before the ride!

So basically, I have lost 4 weeks of training, or I dig out my shit old bike. I think I may have to do that – can't afford to lose out on 4 weeks training!

Dude, dig out the old bike.

Not quite the same, but I'm currently riding my old 1993 mountain bike back and forwards to work along the canal.  It's a beautiful traffic free ride early in the morning, and makes my road bike feel like a dream when I get back on it.

Any riding is training, whether it's on your preferable ride or not.

I will do mate, cant afford to lose 4 weeks.

Maybe the thought of me struggling along on my old bike, that is so knackered that my local bike shop refused to take my money to service it, will inspire more MLG generosity???

Big thankyou to those who sponsored me for my London 2 Brighton ride. I completed the 54 miles and managed to get to the top of Ditchling Beacon (490ft climb in 0.93 miles) without stopping… just! Feel surprisingly nimble today, just a bit of stiffness in the legs.

I know a few of you said they would sponsor me at the end of the month – my just giving page http://www.justgiving.com/mattspinkL2B will be active for another 30 days. i just need another £55 to hit my £250.00 target, so if you could spare anything it would be greatly appreciated.

My big problem now is that i am starting to get the bug for road cycling, and having just splashed out close to £1K on my mountain bike, don't think i can justify another £500+ on a road bike.

Do it, get a cheap road bike from ebay.  It's great fun, and you can do some real mileage and see some beautiful sights.

We didn't get to Brighton until 17:30.  The amount of people on the road was shocking.  By the time I'd had a couple of pints with my friend and his family, it was seven o'clock.  I only had enough daylight to make it about 27 miles back towards my house.  It was a good day though, and supporting my mate was the whole reason for me being there.

We're planning to do it again soon, so we can actually cycle all the way there without all the non cyclists getting in the way! wink

I really worry about buying stuff from ebay, never know if you are going to get a heap of junk!

If you find one that's being sold near you, you should be able to go and look at it.

I took a gamble on my first road bike on ebay.  There was one rubbish picture, but the spec seemed ok and it was only down the road.  When I won the auction and went to pick it up and I was shocked.  It was spotless!  A bargain as well.

Loved riding it so much that I bought a proper bike.

I do love riding my mountain bike, but it's so different on a road bike.  Equal fun, just different, and they compliment each other perfectly.  I think I've got much fitter from long distance road cycling which equates to me doing longer trails and having more fun in the woods, and my mountain bike skills mean my long road rides never get boring.  Wheelieing and pumping through bumpy sections, getting air off and bunny hopping speed humps, and track standing at the lights so I never have to put my feet down!
