Ep 97: Sunbed Hero

posts 12

Thought I should say hello. I have been listening to the podcast for about a year. Decided to sign up to the forum to get in on the Killzone 3 nights. I love that game.

I had been away from gaming for a while – probably at least ten years. I thought I was too mature. Then realised I wasn't and had a desire to play FIFA as I love football, so I bought myself a PS3. I figured that if I didn't like it at least I had a Blu-Ray player. Actually find FIFA a bit boring, but fell in love with Red Dead Redemption.

I like open world type games and objective based shooters.

Killzone 3 is the first game I seriously played online. I started out beyond appalling, but have become pretty decent. Battlefield 3 has become my new go to online game, although I find the low player count on PS3 pretty limiting.

The game I have played the most offline is GTA IV. I got it off the back  of enjoying Red Dead. I know it is not supposed to be the best one, but I haven't played the rest. OK? I can't wait for the new one.

So, yeah, that's me

Welcome aboard the good ship Midlife Gamer, RamboReviver!

Great to hear that you've gotten back into gaming…I think we all have a dry spell from time to time.
Interesting to read that your love of footy got you back with Fifa, but sounds like that didn't quite hit the spot, but Red Dead did.

I see from the gamer card signature that you've been playing FarCry and Tomb Raider…how do they compare to the Rockstar games?

I've not long finished FarCry and I'm just playing with Lara in the evenings…she's got me burning the candle at both ends.

Ooh, is you on the twitters at all?

Hey there RR,

So let's start things of with a quick question that is pressing on all of our minds.

What's your favourite biscuit and beverage of choice.

Also, what do you prefer on your sausage sandwich, red sauce or brown sauce?

Don't worry there are no right answers, only wrong ones.

I do like Brown sauce in a sausage sandwich, but I find that tomato sauce covers more bases…

Farcry 3 is awesome. I like the mix of the more fluent controls of a first person game with the freedom of an open world game. My favourite bits are hallucinatory parts and liberating the outposts. I like the way that you can use different tactics and have to work out which way is best for each base or your playstyle. My only criticism would be that it lacks quite the immersive game world and sense of humour of a Rockstar title. I think on a pure gameplay level it is maybe actually better.
I don't like all Rockstar games. I didn't get in with LA Noire or Max Payne.

I think Tomb Raider is good, but suffers in comparison with Farcry. Also it reminds me a bit of other games I have played like Assassins Creed, Uncharted, and Red Dead. I got to a point towards the end that I found a bit annoying, than didn't go back.

I think want I like a bout real life footy that FIFA doesn't capture is the element of team work. I think you do get that a bit more in objective based shooters like Killzone or Battlefield.
