I'm all set to go now. Just bought the last of my games.

Purchased 9 more games this morning for the Xbox. I've gone for some oldies again.
Alpha protocol
Sonic Generations
Deadly Premonition
Split/Second
Rainbow Six Vegas
Binary Domain
Rage
James Bond: Bloodstone
Lost Planet colonies edition

I reckon I'm done now.

LOL, those alone should see you through the 12 months smile

LOL. I know! Not sure if I'll ever have to buy another game again.

I was going to buy some second hand games for the first time ever but decided I'd go through Amazon new instead, I think I got a couple of bargains! For me, the challenge starts tonight. Got 3 hours game pass provided by the wife!

Ok All,

Do you have a question or a query about the challenge that you want answered before you take on the might of the Year of Shame Challenge?  Well email it on to me at simon@midlifegamer.net and the three of us will endeavor to answer them on the Pre-Challenge podcast.

Maybe you think the challenge is too easy or there is a loophole we haven't thought of.  Whatever it is let us know and we will give you our thoughts about them.

I know you said email, but I thought I would pip in on the forum anyway to throw my hat in the ring.

As my POS is quite small  (less than 20 titles class 1/2), Im going to do the 2 for 1 challenge.

That being said… What happens "if" any of you clear your pile of shame before the end of the challenge? is there a limit on purchases still there to ensure the POS doesn't grow back up again?

Haha, yeah i must admit its a large amount of gaming. Id like to do more too but work (otherwise known as jerk) gets in the way.

On a side note i dnt think its possible to ever clear the pile of shame… i blame games like skyrim. I wonder how many peoples pile of shame grew simply due to that life stealing game?!? Lol

Ok, I've spend the afternoon thinking about this, and I'm going to go full on balls deep….no Joker, no Rental, no gifts…nothing.

As of the 30th September, the only games I play, are games I already own.

My thinking….I can buy/rent/be gifted as many new shiny games as I like, but have to remember the games currently in my pile were new and shiny once, and deserve some love.

In fairness, you have more than enough games to keep you going (for about 4 years). I also don't think you should miss out on your joker as it was one of the core parts of the challenge from day 1. It will be especially useful on the 6th nov too, when I'm looking for a top notch halo team wink

I was thinking that, then I thought…I've probably only played Reach for around 20 hours, and as much as I'll miss playing Halo4, hopefully I'll be enjoying another game just as much.

Not only Balls Deep Darren, but those balls are made of steel as well.

There is no way I could do that.  I don't think I would have enough games to last me through ;-)

ok people, the cahllenge is getting closer and closer.  So close in fact that me, Jayce and D5120 are just a couple of days away from recording the pre challenge podcast.

This is an opportunity for us to explain the challenge, how we got in this mess in the first place, what rules there are that will have to adhere to, exactly what level of challenge we are doing (not all of us are as sadistic as D) to let you know how you can vote on the "community choice" section and most importantly ask any challenge related questions before we begin in earnest.

So please send all of your questions to either @yoschallenge on twitter or myself (simon@midlifegamer.net) now you only have a few hours.

Right, I'm in as well, had a count up this morning and I reckon my POS is about 60 strong! Add to that a few that I will stockpile before starting and I will end up about 65. Quite a lot are XBLA, and a have quite a large group of Lego games as well (belonging to my son).

I will not be renting, and the 2 for 1 doesn't seem strict enough, so I will go balls deep unless there is some kind of 5 to 1 ruling I can evoke!

Just for the record (and to keep me honest), this what I'll be trying to stick to for the year of shame challenge!

I'll be adopting a variant of the "balls deep" approach, though not quite as balls deep as D5120…

I'll be buying no new games on any formats, including iOS, and not using a rental service. I won't be allowed to trade in for new games, but I'll be selling completed or abandoned games from my pile of shame on ebay and keeping track of how much my PoS earns me during the year!

Any direct gifts of games are allowed, but I'm not intending to use any gift vouchers to buy new games.

The only points I'll have left at the start of the challenge are for me to by the remaining parts of The Walking Dead series, this'll be my one "loophole"! smile

I'll have my one joker which at the moment is reserved for Ni No Kuni in January, unless I crack before then…

Now back to the stockpiling!

I'm in! I do have a couple of Pre Orders to take into account. But looking at my Pile I've got about 23 Category 2 POSs. It make the PS3 Widow happy that no new packages are going to be sneaked into the house.

Only weeks to go and I'm starting to get the twitches.  Gotta stay strong, stay within my parameters and look forward to the feeling of taking those titles off my shelf and giving them a good seeing too!

Perhaps I should just get totally bladdered over Eurogamer weekend and not actually make it to any of the stands – painful in the short-run but with longer term benefits… confused

I think winning games is perfectly acceptable. The chance of winning is so small, its hardly like a real loophole.

I shall still be entering every twitter comp i see. #FREESTUFF

Also, if i win the lottery, you can stick the challenge cos i'll buy EVERYTHING! wink

Hi Guys

Here my list for what it’s worth, three of below are on pre order so I’ve still included them;

AC Revelations

L.A. Noire

Aliens vs Predator

Lord of the Rings: War in the North

Assassin's Creed II

LittleBigPlanet 2

Bio Shock

Mass Effect 3

Borderlands

Modern Warefare 3

Bayonetta

Plants Vs. Zombies

Command & Conquer Red Alert 3

Ratchet & Clank: Crack in Time

Dead Space

Razing Storm

Dead Space 2

Resident Evil 5

Dead Space Extraction

Super Stardust Delta

Dishonoured

Syndicate

Duke Nukem Forever

Tomb Raider Anniversary

Escape Plan

Tomb Raider Legend

Far Cry 3

Tomb Raider Underworld

God of War III

The Walking Dead

GTA IV

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Heavy Rain

Unit 13

Hitman Absolution

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine

inFamous

Welcome Park

Journey

Wolfenstien

In light of the Pile of Win campaign that’s coming up I’m going to do the same for this for next year's Charity. I figure I’m going to need an incentive to get through some of these titles. So I thought £5 for game every completed; £1 Bronze Trophy;$3 Silver Trophy;£5 Gold Trophy and I’m thinking a Tenner for every level my profile increases by.

Just I thing I want to do because I know half way through the year I’m going to start to loose momentum.

After a little discussion, we've decided to make Skyrim the 'game we play' in December.

Jayce, Si and I plan to play this game throughout December in the hope we can either remove it from the pile, or at least knock it down to a class 4.

If you've got Skyrim in your pile, how about joining us and lets lets all give Skyrim the love it deserves.

I'm with you all the way on this one.  Left the Bethesda Behemoth at around 40 hours in and level 23 or so and looking forward to returning to it (Wonder what the Tamriel calendar month for December is? – childish I know but I always smirk when Turdas comes round laugh).

Seeing as I've just used up some of my points on Hearthfire, I'll get a house together and you can all come round for a nice cup of tea and a leg of roast Mammoth.

I dropped out at around 80 hours, and still in Winterun (the locals are so friendly), looking forward to spending the wintery month of december building my house, farming for materials, and looking after my adopted family…..who knows, might even get a quest or 2 done too smile
