Ok after much discussion, the rules for the challenge are as follows

Start Date Sunday 30th September 2012 (the last day of Eurogamer)

End Date (the last day of Eurogamer 2013)

Rules

1. No cold hard cash can be paid for a game, be it physically or digitally.

2. Games can be bought for us, however only for Birthdays/Christmas

3. Trading in games to get store credit is acceptable, and can be used to buy a game or points.

4. Use of a rental service is permitted

5. A “Joker” is allowed which can be used once, and only once, throughout the challenge to purchase a single game.

SiStevens, JayceStokes and I will record a monthly podcast (which will be available on the midlifegamer.net extra feed), and keep you updated on our progress, however feel free to put yourself through the same pain and suffering. You can either try our balls deep method, or the less painful '1 game bought for every 2 POS games removed'

Each month we'll list 5 games from our own piles and allow the community to decide on which one we need to attempt to tackle each.

As it stands, we collectively have over 450 games in our pile of shame, so we've got plenty to go at…and that's just counting current generation (excluding iOS/Android games), we'll post a link to the spreadsheet later smile

So who else is up for this ? Please form an orderly queue smile

That's what I like to hear !

I would like to point out that II_Gizmoo_II will also be silently taking part…as if she didn't, that would create a bit of a loop hole for me wink

Been having a good long think about this and I'm in! If I can stick to it it'll push me to finally spend some quality time with the great games currently languishing in my pile of shame.

I don't use a rental service at the moment, so I'm going to try and forgo this aspect as well, although this may be a bridge too far…

Now to buy games with impunity for the next 2 months!

No stockpiling for me in the coming months – Jayce may say I have been stockpiling for years but I do have a 3 disc rental service which I do have to share with the kids and the good lady.

I think that what is good is although we are all doing the year of shame challenge it is our personal journey.

Jayce has no rental service

I have a few Class 1's in my pile

Darren has more steam games

Sir Daren (of Baldock) has an offset where he can buy games once he completes a set number of games

and the variations go on

Awesome, another one taking part in the 'journey'. I have knocked my rental package down to 1 game a month, so I guess I'll have to choose wisely smile

Iv recently cleared the Witcher 2 and Enslaved off my pile aswell as Dawnguard DLC for Skyrim. Iv still got some chevos to mop up though as i dont count a game as finished untill iv unlock all the chevos (excluding MP ones). Damn my completionist OCD!!!! Still got Max Payne and Ghost Recon to finish off and im practically on the vinegar strokes with Dead Island!

I started writing them down this morning and it's now turning into a secondary pile of shame!

It's surprising how therapeutic just listing the games is….and how fast I've been adding to the list since creating it 3 weeks ago :s

I think I need to get some kind of email/web/steam/XBL/PSN filter then hides the word 'Sale' from me…..

Doe's xbox arcade titles count towards your pile of shame (don't think I could ever complete trials evo ;-P )

I don't have a massive pile of shame, but the amount of gaming time I do have it will take me a year to complete them lol

I do have COD and Gears games that I have never really played (buy them, and can't play get into them) So for that reason i'm in with this challenge as it will force me to learn how to play these type of games (might even give them a go online at some point too ;-s )

Well I may have to buy 1 or 2 more titles before this starts (ssx, saints row 3rd, and Kingdom of Amular).

We're including all XBL, PSN and Steam titles in there too. At the end of the day, it's a game that's not been completed. Before I started counting, I thought I'd have maybe 20/30 games that I still had to 'complete', I think I currently have 186 games on the 'pile' that need to be completed.

Currently I have 53 Class 1 games (still in wrapper, not even downloaded, or never fired up), 29 Class 2 Games (Done a Matt…fired up for less than 20 mins), 78 Class 3 Games (Main story not complete) and 26 Class 4 Games (Still have unfinished business…eg Cheevos, side missions etc)

I feel sick to my stomach with nerves saying this but………..count me in…..

I should really stockpile plenty of games before hand and find some good rental places. Will be interesting to see how much is saved by doing this.

All I can think is what games are we missing out on during this long venture…the new consoles…

Glad to see the YoS posse is growing – have a feeling I may need to lean heavily on you guys from time to time!

Has it reached the stage where we need t-shirts yet? wink How about, instead of tour dates / festival bands on the back, we have our respective Piles of Shame (and while, we're at it, some way of crossing out or covering those titles that have been played!) wink  Appreciate that most of us would need 3XL size shirts to fit it all on! laughcry

Seeing as we're all being honest and posting our PoS here, thought I would too but will use spoiler setting to prevent page overflow…

laugh I need a 3XL shirt as standard these days! Too many beers over the years! (Ooooh, I could murder a Newcie Brown now!)

My YOS challenge games list is growing by the day! I'd say easily 100+ now (which is tiny in comparison to the majority of other guys doing this challenge) I'm really excited about this now and can't wait for this to start now. I'm going balls deep. Apart from the one joker I won't be renting or purchasing anymore games or stockpiling points. I aim to try and enjoy the games I do already own. Most games I've not even touched. If I don't play them now, I'll end up never playing them.

I've started totting up my pile of my shame now & it's pushing just over 100 strong at the moment, still to include my "proper" IOS games like Back to the Future, Beneath a Steel Sky etc.

I'm in the same boat as you Wolf Snake, really looking forward to getting started with this now & finally getting round to playing all the games I've been neglecting, sure the novelty will start wear thin once the Winter games rush begins though!
