Since I got my Xbox One on launch day, I've done nothing but play Assassins Creed game. Best one yet. Cracking game. But it's like I'm not online. None of the familiar chimes of friends logging on, a sense of busyness and of community. I can go search for who's on, buried deep within unintuitive menus… Those rumours a while back about the console being six months behind seem an understatement now. I was sold an all in one experience, my live sub carries over, you'll have the same apps… But that's not the case. I can't believe there's no iPlayer. I can't believe that you have to search bloody Bing to find the game demos. And 9Gb to download… I'm a teensy bit annoyed that the PS4 appears able to play the game from the disk whilst simultaneously installing it… I'm worried that the voice control novelty is wearing off already as it's easier to shut the machine off from the controller than it is to tell it to. A couple of times. Why can't I have my little avatar man properly, not just a photo? I'm not sure about the new shoulder buttons at all. And what is it exactly that I'm supposed to do with snap?

But… It works. And it looks nice. And I accept that these are but teething problems that could all be sorted quickly. Please.

Thanks for your initial thoughts Dash. It will be interesting to see what you think in a few weeks time.

One thing that's bugged me is how certain aspects of the user experience have regressed when compared to the 360. Take achievements, for example. If you got an achievement on the 360 you could just hit the guide button and instantly see what you've just got. On the XO you need to hold the button at which point it suspends the game, opens a totally separate application, which then seems to go through some kind of (brief) loading process and then you can select the achievement to see the details.

The whole process seems a bit convoluted and unfortunately that's a comment that could be applied to much of the UX.

Need to moan about Peggle 2.

The first game was one of my favourite XBLA games on 360. The physics/puzzle nature of the game, coupled with leaderboard loveliness pressed so many of my buttons. I even went as far as being amongst the few people that gained the cheevos for completing all the challenges and 100%ing every level.

With these things in mind, I was itching to see a big upgrade with the sequel hitting Xbox One.

Initially I was happy. Shinier graphics, new characters and  optional challenges for each level… awesome…

I played through in my usual way, not progressing to each subsequent level until all challenges were complete. As i knocked down each set of levels, I then completed each trial in order with very few retries… still all good…

Then I ran out of levels…

5 characters… 10 levels each, 3 challenges per level… this is not enough!

I now have the last achievement left to get (finish a level with 12 balls) but I cant bring myself to do it, due to the massive feeling of being short changed!

My hope is that there is plenty of DLC to make this the full experience I wanted. frown

Interesting stuff Dash, Munkimatt and Jayce. Thanks guys. From someone looking in and 'wanting' to buy the system its great to hear what you think.

Jayce – Doesn't them leaving lots of Levels (and i've heard that certain Masters are blanked out, leading you to believe these will be unlocked later) just scream that their going to try and charge you an additoinal £5/£7 to unlock these pieces of DLC? Which is shit. DLC should be an expansion to the game not the bits they hold back.

The below image displays my point.

I too have been a little underwhelmed with the xbone,  the clunkiness of the UI being my main gripe.  This will be patched… eventually and I'm sure that when the big games start to drop in a few mounths it will all be a distant memory.

Really enjoying mine – was very much in "occasional gamer" category (normally offline) so I didn't use many of the functions that people miss.

However, one major gripe is the TV playthrough which appears to be broken in Europe due to the 50Hz PAL vs 60Hz in US. This means watching football or panning shots is just jerky, and pic quality is not the same either when passed through XBox. Real shame as saying "Xbox watch TV" is an excellent way to quickly switch from games to TV, but the reality is that we're all needing to switch inputs to get a proper picture in any case.

I can definitely be patient though, its par for the course with early adoption – and I definitely don't regret the purchase. I think XBox will be a great platform over the generation's lifecycle.

A few months in now and thought I would give my opinion.  As an Xbox exclusive gamer I am well "in" with the brand.  The power of the machine and its capabilities are not in question from me, and the Kinect and particularly the voice controls are more reliable than its predecessor.  The main example of this is in Fifa 14, where you simply say "Substitution" and a list of the playing 11 scroll along the screen.  You then say the players name, it highlights this and then scrolls the available subs.  You then say the name of the sub you wish to come on and the substitution happens.  This procedure has been flawless every time I have used it and is very impressive.

The UI however has its issues.  I feel like its an offline console, which is weird given Microsofts original plan for the machine.  I miss the "X is online" toasts that used to greet you, the only way you can see who is online is by looking at the activity feed. The way to check achievements is also confusing, with only one or two big icons on screen at once, when I would be happier with the smaller 360 style method.  Friend requests are also absent, instead you have to manually check for new followers, and I cant seem to find anyway to look at a bio, therefore dont know whether they are from MLG or just complete randoms.

I love the "Xbox Record That" feature, but again lack a social media/You Tube sharing feature.

If MS fix these small issues (and they have promised they are listening) this will only make the One a better social machine!

Pretty much agree with everything said here, especially the Ui. Clunky and difficult to find what you want.
The only games I have played are BF4, Forza 5 and Halo spartan assault. All good (ish) games but all have their problems. BF4 is still broken on the xbox one, Forza 5's Drivertars make it almost impossible to play and halo sa is ok. Just ok.
HOWEVER! I have just played a few rounds of the TitanFall Beta. OMfingG it's good! That right there is a COD, Halo & Battlefield Killer and system seller. That Beta has single handedly made sure I don't sell my console. It is as simple as that. My PS4 isn't going to get much love from me next month when it comes out. CAN. NOT. WAIT.

Wow was I wrong!!

Titanfall is a bag of balls. Don't know what they did between the Beta and release but it just isn't any fun.

Is it really that different between the two? Jeez, imagine what the 360 version is gonna be like then?

Apparently it's just me. I can't get a game where I am not dead within 15 seconds of the match starting then within 3 or 4 seconds of respawning. I can pump an entire clip into a pilots back without effect & they can spin around & shoot me once in the foot to kill me (seen through the deathcam) Not my connection or router that's the problem so must be the servers although it says my ping is 28ms on the game screen. Ah well. I hope others are enjoying it.
I hold out no hope for the 360 version, if the ONE is as bad as it is, the 360… well… never mind!
My One is going to be moved up stairs and my 360 is coming back to the big TV with the PS4.

I'm not finding that at all with Titanfall.  I would go as far as to say it's far superior to any FPS I've ever played.  I'm not usually very good at them, but holding my own in this game.  And, unlike other FPS's I enjoy playing because I'm not getting slaughtered constantly.

One thing that might be affecting you is that as you rank up, you get more powerful guns, and perks so you can see an outline of opposing players through walls.  Could be youve had a few bad experiences with some of these guys who use this to their advantage.  Get a Stryder titan and a 40mm cannon and you'll soon get payback!
