The Last Of Us : Remastered

Fuck. Ing. Hell.

What a game, nay; what an experience. Had me in its grip from start to finish.

Wonderful story telling with a balanced mix of varied gameplay mechanics.

Audio had all the right notes in the right order; from the emotional acoustic guitar of Gustavo Santaolalla to the genuinely spine chilling screeches and unnerving clicker chattering.

And those environments…wow. Some breath-taking views of mother nature and the remnants of infected humanity.

But it is the cast and the their performances that have cemented this as one the greatest video games I have ever played.

Without giving anything away, I would have to admit that being a father to daughters of a similar age to those portrayed in the game, it made it very easy to identify with Joel…

I’ve also just finished the “Left Behind” DLC, which was just as compelling and once again illustrates how the actors performances can be used as a mature story telling method.

A simply beautiful title which I will, at some point, begin the New Game Plus….and jump in to the Multiplayer.

I know I’m gushing, but I think I needed a title like this.

Bravo Naughty Dog, bravo.

I completed TLOF:Remastered too last week.

And with all the comments I heard about the game just after its release I was really looking forward to the ending. And I kept waiting for it to happen. Even when the credits rolled I was thinking "Is that it?"

Completely get your point Adamski about the relationship between the two of them and how fathers relate to them (does a 6 year old niece count?). I can't recall a game that tapped into your ability to care for your characters so well.

Maybe I'm just a cynic as whilst the story was amazing, I wanted an ending to match frown

However had it been this ending, I would have had a very different opinion!

Still only about a 1/3 of the way through of TLOF, not because I dislike it  but because I find the subject matter too depressing frown. Still amazing so far.

Anyway finally finished Deadspace great game though buggy on PC 9/10.

Octodad good fun well worth a try though can get very annoying at times 8/10.

Finally Fallout NV dead money DLC. Really didn't like it much, very atmospheric but being too maze like and having new annoying mechanics led to me putting on god mode for the last third 6/1 0. Have all the DLC so hope next one is better smile.

Also just finished …

Monument Valley on my Nexus 7. Don't play mobile games that much if I really want to play games when I'm out I'll take my vita but this is one of those rare games which works really well on touch screens.

Very clever and very playable though quite short and not that difficult but well worth a play through 9/10.

Black flag on PS3. Great game in which I was collecting everything etc to begin with until I did the first underwater mission which was just urgh but apart from that the only other bad thing thing was as many have already said is all the missions spent tailing somebody. But the ship stuff is fantastic even the shanties and overall 9/10.

Finally I finished Remember Me on PS3. Played this over three sessions over the year so clearly never grabbed me completely but played the final half in the last three or four days and it was good fun. I enjoyed the combat and the story but it does lack variety ( 2 pretty much identical boss fights … out of only 7 ?) so 8/10.

Murdered : Soul Suspect

An easy platinum, and pretty much a 3D point and click adventure with very pretty graphics. The story was ok, but the gameplay involved lots of walking around, with our old friend collectibles boosting the time you spend in game. No chapter select, and no real consequences if you dufus all of the investigations. A couple of simple stealth sections – break up a fundamentally forgettable game.

Little replay value, as once you've played it once you pretty much know the twists. If you want to get the perfect shield for all the investigations go for it – but no incentive. It's a cross between LA Noire and Beyond: Two Souls, but fails to beat either of them. I would advise buying LA Noire!!!

….ah, now its finished!

That was a decent title. Good mix of mechanics and varied environments. Did feel a little like a one man army from time to time, rather than battling alongside an 'army'.

Story went south towards the end, but kept me entertained.

I fancy taking the multiplayer for a spin.

Finally finished Last of Us on PS3, Fantastic game all round I thought. It hardly needs saying that it looks amazing and that the atmosphere, story and characters are fantastic but I also thought the gameplay was spot on.First of all the mechanics were solid and felt good better than uncharted but most importantly I used every weapon at my disposal depending on the circumstances and I never did things the same way, stealth, run and fight I did it all at different times and was never able to do the same old thing over and over. Only bad thing was too many ladders smile. So best story driven game ever made 10/10.

Finished gone home and enjoyed it, could have used a bit more structure so the story unfolded a bit clearer but a solid 8/10.

Also finished the last third of Neverwinter Nights from my 12 year old previous save and wow was that tough. Good game though (I loved all the Baldur's Gate to NW nights D+D games) and well worth a play if its on sale on GOG etc. Not as good as the Baldur's Gates games or Torment but still a decent game even today  so 8/10.

Finally I finished Lego Star Wars 2, solid lego game don't really need to say more 8/10.

Finished LA Noire liked the non detecting bits frown. The interviews and investigating crime scenes were pretty dull and not always logical.

7/10.

Also finished Uncharted 3 which I really liked and thought it was better than 2. Was interesting to see how big an advance naughty dog made with the last of us which bodes really well for uncharted 4.

9/10

Defiantly deserve a medal Otto smile.

Hi Caliburn,

I am one trophy off Platinum with LA Noire because my disk has glitched. I think that it is a massively underrated game, I really enjoyed exploring the city and getting all the history as well, the main story was great – though for a trophy hunter there were some nightmare trophies ( drive every car). It's interesting that I saw Madmen after playing LA Noire and saw that one of the characters was Cole Phelps, there's also that guy from Heroes in it as well ( the large mind reader ). The mocap was excellent ( though sometimes the interviews were a bit hit and miss – with the lying bit). I really rated it.

Watchdogs was a solid 6 – so much potential but just a game that has tried too hard to please everybody. If you remember the hype before it came out, there was no way it could have lived up to expectations, The driving model is appalling and the campaign story is just a bit long really – it's been said before that Aiden Pierce is a crap protagonist and I agree – Ubisoft obviously felt the same because they replaced him with another character in the DLC..

There is so much to do its overwhelming – the sub games are various – poker/she'll game/ drinking game (a bast of a trophy) and then there are various virtual reality games – so even though I have completed the platinum there are still games that I haven't completed or even played.
The hacking generally is split into a few things either just pressing a triangle when you are in the vicinity of another individual – but there's no plus or minus to anything you do ( bloke in remission for cancer – no problem hack his account and steal his money ) – shoot a drug dealer in the head ( that's bad – go to renegade and people call you). Most of the camera hacks basically intimate either blokes tossing off or something else unsavoury – it's funny at first but it appears that a lot of the staff at Ubisoft think that most blokes use the Internet purely for surfing porn ( pretty accurate then you say).

Anyway – I'm working through infamous second son now – so I'll post that up soon oh and I bought a Wii-U, my son lives it!!

All the best

Otto

Hi Otto & Caliburn,

One day I will finish LA Noir, and my full pile of shame at that rate, but I just lost will to play it, perhaps one too many open world games at the time.

Loved inFamous Second Son, I loved Delsin so much more so the Cole but the supporting cast I found more interesting then the other two. Otto if you haven't play First Light a very enjoyable bit sized inFamous game.

Just completed Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystria, it is a solid "meh" with buggy trophies. Looking forward to completing my plats for The Evil Withing (2/3 the way through akumu mode (whimpering noisesfrown)) and Hitman: Contracts

The Wolf Among Us

It's not really a massive achievement as it's more like a choose your own adventure book than a game. Having said that – I enjoyed the story and I thought that some of the characters were really good. I was very tempted to get hold of a couple of the 'graphic novels' (comics), in order to try and see how the story developed. There were quiet a few quick time events, and a few choices but like most of these branching games, if you replay the games you tend to find that all roads lead to the same place ultimately.

The art style is very atmospheric and the voice acting is also good. I would recommend it if you can pick it up for cheaps.

Completed Valiant Heart great game good for kids did study the Great War but still learnt some new facts.

Also finished 1886 not bad not worth the hype, but really that’s the ending, seriously. Clearly this was half a game there is going to be another sequel that might finish the story off.

It one hell of great experience, the horror part aside (good as it is) the story is intelligent and worthy of discussion. My wife and I talked about the story and the characters for several hours after finishing. I can't recommend it enough.

Recently finished Dark Souls 3. Awesome game with a marmite feel…….

Played the original Demon Souls on the PS3 back in the day and i'll admit it beat me, and subsequently put me off playing Dark Souls I & II.

Last year I decided to have a go at Bloodborne and really enjoyed it and that experience made my mind up for me with regards to DS3.

Both are amazing games.
