So it was payday and with little thought for my future wellbeing and my relationship with my wife I went and got myself a PS Vita. Ever since  E3 and the PS4 reveal and the whole remote play thing and various other factors the Vita sort of popped on my radar. And as far as I can tell a lot of other people as well. I noticed some price hikes here and there (the local asda had the vita and COD pack for £180 last week and that’s crept up to about £220 now ) and a few other stores selling out of what few they had.

Anyway I saw a deal on Game where you could get a new vita and the mega games pack (which is a code for ten games and an 8gb memory card) for £169 which was too good to pass up. I called the local store and they had one in so I shot over there after work and got myself a vita.

Initially I was a bit hmmm this is like an an iphone with proper buttons but after playing a bit of wipeout (its been too long) and some little big planet my opinion is more of ‘this is a proper console… but small’

The deal was a very good one and it seems to come and go on the game website. The card will hold about 8 or 9 of the games you get in the bundle and I have taken a few off to download everybodys golf which I have not tried yet.

There does not seem to be many physical games in the shops and what the do have seem quite pricy but the PS store has loads and you have demos and the freebies from playstation plus.

One things for sure I am going to need another memory card very soon. So yeah, all hail the new shiny!

Excellent purchase! A massively underrated system IMO.

Ensure you get Playstation Plus if you haven't already. Some awesome content for a nominal fee.

Hotline Miami, Guacamelee, Thomas was Alone, Gravity Rush, Uncharted … So many great games.

PSN ID: Vimesy74

Steam: CmdrVimes

Battlenet: Vimesy74#2797

Current games of choice:  Battlefield 4 & Hearthstone.

I love my vita smile Vimesy spot on, get psplus even for a month and you'll be able to play Uncharted, Gravity Rush and Ninja Gaiden right now (although, as you said, you'll always be scrabbling for memory space). And head over to the store, in the sports sale I believe Everybody's Golf is still on for £7. Then you can get down and dirty with the MLG community games via the new turn based challenge mode. It's like chess but it's golf! wink

I downloaded everybody's golf last night for 7 quid good job too it's back up to 12 today! They gave me a 30 day PSN trial code when I bought the vita so I downloaded all the games you mentioned and uncharted is downloading now. Such a bargain it puts Xbox live to shame. Will definitely check out the challenge mode on everybody's golf!

May I recommend an excellent retro platform game in the mobile section by the name of Life of Pixel. The best £1.59 you'll ever spend.

Thanks for the tip. Have been getting quite a bit of use out of the vita lately. having to watch an episode of Grand Designs with the wife is a lot easier with a round of Everybodys Golf thrown in.

Excellent purchase illander66 and worth every penny. PS + is a must for Vita and PS3. If you only spend 50 euro a year and look at all the class games you get for your 50 euro. Still doesn't stop me from buying other games though. Try Virtues Last Stand, it's not usually my type of game but I'm loving it.

Have you tried remote play yet? I find it laggy on God of War collection, not much better than psp remote play. Here is hoping the remote play on PS4 is better.

Although I have a feeling Sony are not being entirely honest with us regarding remote play for all ps4 games, hmmmm I don't believe it.

Did you get any grieve from the wife? Or do you have an understanding wife who supports your hobbies….

The one the one thing that slightly annoys me is how quickly I can fill up a memory card Uncharted is currently free for PS+ but it basically fills a 4MB card. plus the fact that you have to buy offical Sony ones. Still I guess that what happens being late to the party as it were and having loads of (free great) games to catch up on….

Have not tried remote play Solm as I only have an Xbox but I think I can see a PS4 on the horizon (just happens to be my 40th at the end of October) so I will hopefully be able to give it a try. I agree though that it could be a bit janky, depends on the connection to the PS4 I guess.

As for my wife she is by turns  tolerent / understanding / condecending / bemused by my gaming and worrying Lego addiction / hobbies.

Also I use the technique of saying look I bought X guess how much it was and then she tells me an amount an I say yes your right it was that amount……….

She does the same with Shoes and bags though so we are just as bad as each other…

Yes the shoe debate only get away with that for so long after 19 years together I can't use that anymore. Must try "Guess the price" in future. Yes I got 16 gig card with my Vita and it fills up quick, but as the old saying goes "if you have the space you will fill it"

I had to do a lot of travel last week for work and spent hours on trains and it was an absolute godsend. smaller and lighter than my ipad but bigger and with proper controls as opposed to squinting at my phone.

wish the battery was a bit more robust. luckily the train had power sockets so I could charge it up a bit.

It is a pain to find. Go into the store, choose Playstation Mobile. From genres, go into Action and scroll down (they're not in alphabetical order) to find it smile

Good news from gamescom Sony have said they will be reducing the price of the memory cards not sure by how much. Murasaki Baby also looks like a great vita game. I can definately see myself getting one next year after a PS4

I don't own a PlayStation 3 and I cannot see me getting the 4. But I still think the Vita is a great little machine and that's without the connectivity so I imagine if your in the Sony world fully it will be even better.

Especially good now its getting borderlands 2. I spend most of my time trying to stealth Unit 13, flying around on gravity rush and killing giant ants on EDF!!! lol

Good purchase smile

A few days ago I picked up an 8GB memory card from Argos for £14.99 which is about half what they were going for about a week ago.

Anyway they gave me the memory card that came with the mega pack bundle code (I checked the Argos order number and it was the right item) and as I already had the bundle when I bought the Vita I sold the code on ebay for 13 quid so that must work out as the cheapest memory I have ever bought. confused

I picked up a Vita a little while ago too on the back of my upcoming PS4 purchase (for stupid cheap money!). Uncharted was surprisingly fun, though understand why Naughty Dog didn't want to do it. The brief seemed to be 'use every single trick in the vita book'. Was a bit ott, but still good. Though Assassin's Creed was worth the money, and am now onto Killzone which takes the vita to a new level. V impressed.

Uncharted was good but not as good the Uncharted 2. Will have to pick up Killzone at some stage. It got good reviews.
