First MLG only dungeon last night was fun. We seemed to manage it pretty well and Digi hopefully managed to capture it for all you lucky folks to see.
It went better than the previous run (without Carver). What with Digi managing to get taken out by a Bombcore, and me bein a keyboard spaz and getting myself locked out of the final boss, we made it tougher than it should have been.
On a side note, anyone sitting on the fence should just jump on and give it a try. Yes there are hardcore MMO elements but there is a massive amount of casual fun to be had. Plus 99% of the random people I've met have been happy to offer advice and help out. Also, you're not locked into a specific class as you can switch classes based on the weapon you're carrying.
It's a stunning looking game with some fantastic music and a great community. Come on and jump in with me, Digi, Carver and Horse.

Good quality captures there. I can only agree with what has been said, this game is lots of fun with plenty to do for casual or hardcore MMO players. It's my 1st real MMO and it does a pretty decent job of explaining most things and the majority of random players you come across are friendly and helpful.

We currently have a linkshell set up until a Free Company (Guild/Clan) is established and everyone in it can invite others so we have somewhere to chat. A linkshell is basically a chat channel where only members can talk to each other no matter where they are in the world or even if they are in dungeons/instances. Once you are in the linkshell, you can type /l to talk in that channel, or easier still is by clicking the speech bubble next to the text chat box and selecting LS#1: GBD, which will default everything you type to that channel.

I'm happy to use the standard Tag 'GBD' and name 'MidlifeGamer' (or a variation of).
Out of interest I put 'Go Balls Deep' in Google translate and it came out with 'Balls ire altum' for Latin.

Good to see MLG is taking FF 14 by storm!  Made a cheeky and cheap ps3 purchase this week and upgraded to ps4.  Just about made it through the tutorials which I assume I have to do before I can enter the world?  My online time is pretty pants unfortunately as I'd love to hook up with you guys to show me the ropes.  At the moment I'm just running around with what feels like a big flashing noob sign above my head…

Enjoying the vids, keep them coming!

Yeah, it's sub, around the £7 mark per month.

I know ps4/ps3/PC all coexist, but I'm not sure about any MS platforms tbh.

Mage. We are all on the Phoenix server. Think you might have gone past that part if you have made a character up.

If you are on Phoenix, stick your character name here and we can add you to the MLG Free Company.

As I keep telling everyone, this is my first MMO. All the ransoms I've met with have been understanding and giving me lots of advice. The FFXIV community have been really friendly. Add the MLG Free Company into that and you have a cracking game.
Stay clear of Digi though, he's a virtual crack dealer. Before you know it, he'll have the entire forum community hooked on this game

Really happy to see this game getting plenty of love here. Look forward to seeing you in game. We had another couple of good runs tonight, and believe Digi has another video to upload!

On a side note, I was thinking about this earlier and thought it would be helpful. I didn't discover this until late into the game but there is a side quest which unlocks a challenge log that refreshes weekly. By carrying out objectives that you will for the most part be doing in natural gameplay, you will be rewarded with Exp, Gil and Company Seals. It's a level 15 quest in Limsa Lominsa. A better explanation can be found in the link below.

http://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Challenge_Log

When you're not doing much in game, it can also be a nice distraction from the main storyline. Also, whichever class you have activated at the time of each completion will get the Exp for it, so it can help levelling up secondary classes as some of the rewards are pretty decent. Hope this helps if you haven't unlocked it yet.

MaGe, a friend request will be incoming. In-game requests and company invites only seem possible when both parties are on at the same time, but there is usually someone on each evening.
Horse, I unlocked that quest a while ago but hadn't paid any attention to the challenge log (trying to get the hunting ones done), so I didn't know it reset each week. That is something worthwhile knowing.
One final point, this game really needs some cloth maps smile

I think I already have the challenges unlocked but I didn't realise they were repeatable. I've had them in my challenge log half done, except the crafting ones which I've completed by accident.
On a side note i hope Digi recorded our latest dungeons run just so you can all see Steveo's interesting take on the dps role. He takes on a much more 'football manager' stance directing action from the sidelines on boss fights

The Spammers Bane is an essential one and I'm going to have to use the Fate AutoSync as well (thanks).
I've found it easier not to use many macros with the Summoner (and Arcanist). Most of the jobs attacks are DOTs (damage over time – 4weeks ago I had no clue about all these MMO terms) or rely on an Aetherflow effect, all of which have different effect and cooldown times. It's easier for me to manage them all manually, so that the target can constantly be under their effect.
The only other macro I really use is:
/ac Physick (pet)
Physick is the SMN version of cure.

Alright folks, I have a level 15 lancer, and need to join this company or whatever you've set up. Character's name is Denton Cooke. Does what I do benefit the company as a whole. Sorry for the noob questions…

Really enjoying it. It's taken me a few weeks on and off to get to level 15 so I'm not hardcore into it, but always have fun when I do, and I haven't done anything other than the opening lancer quests yet.

Ok Craig, we can only invite you to the FC when you are online. Once in all your Fates, dungeons etc will help the FC level up. Each level gives is different bonuses for the FC. We have a PSN chat going, I you're friends with any of us on PSN ask to be added as that's the best way to let us know you're online and we can friend and invite to FC. Don't worry about noob questions, we all started somewhere so we're all happy to help.

Cheers Carver,

I'll send out some FR's later. I am by no means going to be on a lot, but I have enjoyed it more than most MMO's I've tried so I really want to give the social / multiplayer aspect a try this time (I am notoriously solitary as a player usually!)

See you online soon..

Not been playing a great deal lately, been trying to catch up on other games! I have been on occasionally to do some daily stuff though. I notice the FC is getting quite a few members now so looks like we may be able to tackle 8 man dungeons when everyone gets towards level 50. Looking forward to this!

On a side note, I played with one of the best PUG's I've come across in this game tonight. I was doing a daily duty roulette and The Navel (Hard) popped up which usually means an average of 2-3 wipes and a few echo boosts if nobody rage quits after one wipe. I captured the fight and decided to try out the share factory for the first time and upload my first PS4 footage. It's also a quick look at one of the hard mode primal fights you can unlock when you get to 50.

For anyone who hasn't tried Share Factory, I would recommend it. I found it really simple to use and does a good job at adding a bit of polish to your videos. I would love to see more FF XIV videos up here if anyone is so inclined!

Just watched your excellent video.

Unfortunately the video captures everything that keeps me from trying MMOs. I have never played one because I percieve there to be such a high barrier of entry.

I can watch most game videos of most genres, and have a fairly good idea of what is going on. But watching this I felt as baffled as watching EVE Onlibe videos. Lots of HUD items, lost of bars and numbers and things cooling down (is that the right term), chaos going on all over the screen, it hurt my eyes and my brain and i could make very little sense of it all.

How on earth does one go about getting into, and getting the best out of MMOs at such a late stage?

I feel like if I missed the boat 10 years ago, I have missed the boat forever?

This is my first MMO, and like you, I was a bit overwhelmed prior to starting out. FFXIV is great because it gently eases you into it. The first 10 or so levels are well paced and before you know it everything just clicks.

This is my 1st MMO, and I can say I felt the same when jumping in. The video is end game content that you won't get to until you finish the main storyline. Digi has some great videos posted further up the page of a MLG only run and are definitely worth watching if you want a better idea of earlier content. A lot of the numbers and bars won't really matter to you unless you play healer. All the bars down the left are the other players and you only really need to watch these if you are healing/debuffing people. I would recommend any newcomers to pick a DPS class as you have one main responsibility… kill stuff!

This game starts off much slower and does a good job of introducing various mechanics throughout the game at a steady pace. It's pretty much a solo experience through your early levels and I've found it serves as a good "tutorial" of how to play. All dungeons are also all 4 player and much less hectic until you near maximum level. I've also found the community to be pretty helpful and understanding of new players. This could be due to the large influx of new console MMO players due to the PS4 launch.

I was worried jumping in if I would enjoy it or not, but once I got though my 1st dungeon, I can honestly say the feeling of having to work together to succeed made it one of the best coop experiences I've ever had. There is also the matter of non combat classes such as crafting and gathering which add a whole new dynamic to gameplay. I can honestly say it's one of the best games I've played in years and I am glad I gave it a go. Oh, and we have a great Free Company (clan) too, where we also occasionally run dungeons together. If you do decide to give it a go, there are plenty of us to help out.

Can I just echo what everyone else on here has said.

First MMO for me, jumped on just to say that I'd tried one expecting to be playing something else within the week. Over a month on and I'm still hooked.  Can't speak for other MMOs but FFXIV feels, for me, like a hybrid of a single and multiplayer game.

I don't get on every day and can't spend too long on it when I do but I never feel like I'm getting left behind. There are always other players running around in the World and there's always someone who is lower / higher / the same level as you.  It's not automatically PvP (there are set areas where you can do this) so you can just sit back and level up while you enjoy the story and the game world. You can run duties and dungeons when you feel like it (being automatically grouped with other players by default) and everyone I've come across so far has been friendly and helpful. That goes double for the MLG players who are a font of knowledge and who will answer all queries no matter how stupid the questions are! (Believe me, I've asked a few…).

Although I'm well behind most of the MLG Free Company it's great to hear how they're getting on via the FC menu in game, the text chat facility and recorded dungeon runs and it pleases me to know that, while I play, I'm contributing to the FC standing, coffers, etc (albeit only in a small way).

We're busy hoarding gils for a house at the mo – they are extremely expensive!

Here's to many more days and nights in Eorzea. Wish you were here! laugh

Howdy fellow Eorzeans, just thought I'd drop some info here about the upcoming patch 2.3 (Defenders of Eorzea), due to arrive on the 8th of July. If you follow the the FFXIV twitter account or have been keeping up to date with news, you may already have seen this. The patch will bring and extension to the main scenario, extension to side story Hildebrand questline, Frontline 72 player PvP, continuation of the Crystal Tower raid, a new Primal boss (Ramuh), 3 new dungeons and more stuff. Also coming is "The Hunt" which will bring back notorious monsters, that I'm pretty sure someone was asking about before. I definitely excited for this one, and as more of us reach end game content its good there is even more to do!

More info:

http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/special/2_3_Defenders_of_Eorzea/

Worth noting that Chocobo raising awesome and the Private chambers mentioned will require a FC house and stable to take advantage of, so it looks like property will be an even more worthwhile investment.
