Midlife Gamer Community Awards 2017 – Shut Up & Take My Money Award

March 8th, 2017 by

MLG Awards 1 BA***Editors Note*** When we put this award together we expected one trailer to run away with the votes. However that didn’t quite happen between the top 5 trailers having just a couple of votes between them. We then had a look at those trailers and found that they all were amazing for various reasons so the editorial team made the executive decision to showcase all five of the trailers in this one award.

5.)Mass Effect Andromeda Trailer

Kicking off our countdown of what the Midlife Gamer population were the best Trailers of the year is a franchise that is sure to have a BIG 2017. The Mass Effect: Andromeda Trailer dropped on N7 day 2016 (November the 7th for those of you not indoctrinated) and has so far been viewed on the official youtube channel over 3 million times. Letting us know that WE are the aliens, and are the new ‘Pathfinder’, it appears we’ll be experiencing a very different part of a very familiar universe. Given the buzz on this game, I know there will be a lot of people boarding the tempest in March.

4.)Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Story Trailer

Sony Threw us a Naughty dog Shaped bone back in March 2017 in the Shape of the Uncharted 4 Story Trailer, letting us see a little more of what we’d be getting ourselves into when the game finally dropped in May. We caught up with Drake reunited with his brother, Sam, and searching, yet again, for long lost artifacts and treasure, as always being chased perilously. However this time around we could see we were getting something different. We had already experienced you Drake, but this was even younger, and with his brother, fleshing out more backstory and letting us see deeper into what Made Drake,Drake.

3.)Red Dead Redemption 2 Trailer

“When the time comes, you gotta run and don’t look back; This is over”. Rockstar teased us a bit, but they didn’t keep us waiting too long when they delivered the Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer towards the end of the year. Giving us a glimpse at the RDR world as it looks on current gen machines and teasing us with a moody fiery shot and a posse riding out against a gorgeous mountainous backdrop got a lot of us in the mood. It’s no surprise this one is on most people’s must get list for 2017.

2.) Star Wars: The Old Republic – Knights of the Eternal Throne “Betrayed” trailer

Clocking in at the longest out of the trailers in our list so far, SW:TOR’s latest trailer dropped a mere few months ago, at 6 minutes long feels more like a prologue. Showing the struggle of Senya Tirall and her Attempts to Keep her daughter, Vaylin away from her father, the Eternal Emperor Valkorion. The trailer is hugely dramatic and is actually part of a longer ‘short’ giving TOR all the feels as they head into the newest expansion.

1.) Final Fantasy XV: Omen Trailer

Topping the list of votes this year is the stunning FFXV: Omen Trailer. We start seeing Noctis, our hero, walking into a seemingly simple gas station, though that changes very quickly, stepping into a very regal looking bedroom we start to see our ‘omens’ straight away the black and white theme very much apparent throughout. As with everything FF this trailer is beautiful, the visuals are stunning, the soundtrack at once dramatic and haunting as we follow Noctis on his journey through a dreamscape interspersed with visions of a young girl doing battle. Monsters, armies and sword teleports a-go-go, the climax of the trailer sees his visions reversed and replayed with a sinister twist. It served up a lot of info and presented a lot more questions and, as trailers go, did everything right, so it rightly tops our list.
