The golden age of rail is a romantic idea, I don’t think anyone can really put their finger on it but it can’t be denied there is a strange allure to huge metallic beasts cruising the length and breadth of the land on steely arteries. With more than 50% of all adults having personal motorised transport i.e. a car, it amazes me that trains still hold the relevance they do, this country would be crippled if all rail stopped tomorrow. And to the drivers, these unsung heroes must direct vehicles that weigh more than your house at 120mph, stopping on a dime and keeping to the tightest deadlines. They say imitation is the best form of flattery so why not emulate these thankless few and have a go on Train Simulator 2012. On a personal note, I could’ve probably thanked them more by not placing pennys on the line as a child until an elderly neighbour threatened to kick me in the goolies, but I choose to honour them in this way instead.

That announcer at the start of the video was far too clear to be a true simulation. I actually understood what he said.
:)
Thanks Ant. I’ve often had a small hankering to try one of these things.. But I would probably just want to download the Sidcup to Charing Cross line and basically drive the train I get that takes me to work every day for three reasons: 1) It would be really cool! 2) It would be really cool to look out the front of the train! 3) I’d see if I get it to run on feckin’ time for once.
