Ah racing, the sport of kings, or is it boxing? Possibly horse racing? Who cares, the point is if you have time enough to think such matters you aren’t playing Trackmania 2 the right way. Every neuron must be firing to get the quickest lap, you must nibble away at your previous best through repetition and experimentation. The main draw of TM2 is that you know there is a faster way around the course, those niggling feelings up in that brain box that tells you if you’d have taken the third corner tighter to the apex you could be the best. Apart from it all changes there, you see if you nailed the third corner without losing speed then you will hit the forth corner faster and may need to drift instead, herein lies the beauty of racing. Your progress is charted through your ranking, all 60,000 players share the same scoreboard and by getting faster times than those above you in races will earn you Ladder Points, get more ladder points than the person above you and you will move up. This does sound superficial but you tell me you don’t want to keep up with the Jones.
If you do choose to dive in, be sure to leave a message in the Trackmania 2 thread on the forums with your in-game name and get added to the possibly best racing group there is: the Midlife Gamer group. We aim to meet up on Sunday nights, have a good old chat on Skype and maybe get a bit of racing done.
